- Every mobile phone handset has its own serial number called
an IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity).
It is a number which is usually 15 digits long. The IMEI stays
with a mobile phone handset forever, even if the SIM card is changed.
- RECORD your IMEI. It may
be on the box your phone came in, it may be on the rear of your
phone or you can get it from your handset by dialling *#06# (star,
hash, zero, six, hash).
- RETAIN your IMEI. When
you've made a record of your IMEI, retain it somewhere safe at
home. Tell the Police if your IMEI number if your phone is lost
or stolen.
- RESULT. The Police can
uniquely identify your lost or stolen phone and return it to you.
