What
is Calderdale-Online?
Launched in January 2003, Calderdale-Online has a mission, to provide an independent, one-stop shop for information and community services within Calderdale (West Yorkshire). We are striving to provide global resources with a local focus.
This site is aimed at attracting readers within Calderdale to use and enjoy the site while actively promoting local health, social, environmental and economic issues as well as opportunities for self-help.

12th June 1839
On this day, workmen clearing a site at the foot of Gibbet Street in Halifax discovered the original Gibbet platform and two skulls placed half a metre apart from their skeletons – thought to be the remains of John Wilkinson and Anthony Mitchell who were executed in 1650. In 1974 a 15-foot (4.5 metres) high replica of the Gibbet was constructed on the site. The original Gibbet blade was placed in the Pre-Industrial Museum, Piece Hall.

You don't have to become a member to read or post to our general forums but there are several forums that require that you register if you wish to post. To become a member, all you have to do is click on the Register button at the top of the Chat screen and fill in the online form.
